AT A WALMART IN CANADA?
Posted by Nancy Swart on

Frequently this cardboardthirsty couple will take long drives to the next province over(Ontario) and now moreso since 19 won't let us cross over into the USA. Why the frequent drives? - well Quebec Walmarts for the most part only ever stock hockey. Rarely will we ever find baseball basketball or football. Wrestling sneaks in a tad, so in todays 6 hour drive we were fortunate to land on a Wally that had that 2020 Topps factory set. It is THE absolute first time I have ever encountered a Topps or any baseball factory set at a Canadian WM. I'll check...

The cardboard quest even early on was always on. After exhausting the corner stores of their inventory I discovered a place that was more of a wholesaler yet open to the public. It was a bit longer than the usual 1 block trek and through a high traffic artery but being 11 I could handle it despite it being unsettling. Once inside there was a rack that had full boxes of baseball cards(1978 o-pee-chee) priced at $4.69 Not that it mattered but it represented a savings of 71 cents buying by the box versus the 36X 15c per pack. Funny...
How Much Is This Worth?

It's worth fun, not nowadays where too much of life is quantified in do$$ar terms. Before the wrapper even comes off they're uttering How much, whoa! try enjoying it breathe in the fumes of a freshly unwrapped pack of 1 card and ahhhh yeah. Back to the 70's again yes and we'll go there often to emphasize how the card bizness has evolved from innocence to the money machine it is today. We actually played with the cards, 2 main games- 1 was flinging your card to land it on another card and if you did you got all the...

Growing up in the district of Park Extension in Montreal in the early 70's was a magical time like there can never be another. So fortunate and blessed in every way but especially for cards! There was not just that 1 corner store there were several all within minutes of 1 another that were often frequented by me in my quest for glorious cardboard and boy did they all cater or try to at the very least. Not just Hockey though, there would be baseball , wacky packages and stickers by Panini(1976 olympics), the corner BP gas station(animals) and Americana...

Welcome to the daily musings, We (Nancy and I Steven) comprise the be-all do-all behind our webstore www.baseballcardstore.ca It began like for so many others, with that 1st unleashed visit to the corner store 1 block away running an errand around 1974. Packs of Hockey cards for a dime I'll have some and for a dollar I got 10! Nobody bemoaned it on Facebook nor raked me over the coals that i grabbed every last pack that day. An addiction was born, and a stick of gum came with it too! There existed NO price guides, there were NO values...
